One of the most important things to remember when coping with a loss or grief is that you are not alone. Open your eyes and look around; it’s almost a fact that you will find that there are others all around you who are grieving as well. Reaching out to family and friends in a time of grief is not only a good way to cope with it, but it is also safe and effective. Allowing those we love to help us deal with the grief we have is important for them as well as those grieving. Who knows you better than your family and close friends? They will know the best ways to help you cope as well as how to brighten the darkness and eventually put a smile back on your face. Remember, you are not alone.
Another very important thing to remember when grieving is to not try and push the grief away or bury it; this will only lead to more pain and suffering. Another negative way that some people may choose to deal with grief and bad emotions is by using drugs or drinking excessively. Grief is a part of a healing process and it is natural as well as safe to feel. The only unsafe part of grief is when we make the decision to do unsafe things to help deal with the grief. Don't hide or deny what you feel; instead, embrace it and let it come out. Let the grief play its part so that you can then begin to move forward and heal from the situation that has lead you to grieve. There are many excellent books on grieving, but one that comes to mind is, "The Courage To Grieve."
